Marcelo Alonso

Author name The first journalist exclusively dedicated to vale tudo and jiu-jitsu in Brazil, Marcelo Alonso is following the first steps of the most important Brazilian fighters since 1992. Editor of Tatame Magazine for 15 years, Alonso also worked as correspondent (text and photos) for Great Britain's Fighters Only, Japan's Kakutogi Tsushin, America's Full Contact Fighter and Spain’s Cinturon Negro. In 2009, Alonso left Tatame to join Sherdog contributor Gleidson Venga at Portal do Vale Tudo, the largest MMA outlet in Brazil. In addition to Sherdog and PVT, Alonso also has worked for sports cable network Combate since 2009, first hosting an interview program, Cara a Cara (from 2009 to 2014), latter presenting a weekly news show, Combate News (from 2014 to 2018) and currently as UFC color commentator (since 2017). Alonso is also author of two MMA books: From Vale-Tudo to MMA, 100 years of Fighting (2013) and Behind the Octagon (2018).
