By The Numbers: UFC 269 Pre-Fight Edition

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday will tie a bow on the pay-per-view portion of its 2021 campaign, as a pair of title bouts carry the freight for UFC 269 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Charles Oliveira puts his lightweight crown on the line against American Top Team’s Dustin Poirier in the main event, while Amanda Nunes defends her women’s bantamweight championship against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 18 winner Julianna Pena in the co-headliner.

As UFC 269 “Oliveira vs. Poirier” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the 28 competitors on the card have generated to this point:

11: Undisputed lightweight champions in UFC history, including Oliveira. Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Frankie Edgar, Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Rafael dos Anjos, Eddie Alvarez, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov are the others.

8: Knockdowns landed by Poirier as a UFC lightweight, tying him with Yves Edwards for fifth on the promotion’s all-time list at 155 pounds. Only Melvin Guillard (13), Donald Cerrone (11), Edson Barboza (10) and Michael Johnson (nine) have been credited with more.

1,981: Days spent by Nunes as UFC women’s bantamweight champion. It ranks as the fourth-longest single title reign in the organization’s history behind Anderson Silva (2,457), Demetrious Johnson (2,142) and Georges St. Pierre (2,064).

4: First-round finishes on the Pena resume, two of which have taken place inside the Octagon. The Sikjitsu rep took care of Jessica Rakoczy with punches in 4:59 at “The Ultimate Fighter 18” Finale on Nov. 30, 2013 and wiped out Milana Dudieva with punches and elbows in 3:59 at UFC Fight Night 63 on April 4, 2015.

15: Santiago Ponzinibbio victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 54% of his career total (28). His list of UFC victims: Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, Court McGee, Andreas Stahl and Wendell de Oliveira Marques. Ponzinibbio holds six other victories by submission and seven more by decision. He tackles Geoff Neal in a three-round welterweight showcase.

106: Significant strikes by which Neal has been outlanded during his current two-fight losing streak. The Fortis MMA standout connected on 120 such strikes in decision defeats to the aforementioned Magny and Stephen Thompson while absorbing 226 of them in return.

10: Consecutive calendar years in which former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has fought at least once. In addition to his 0-1 mark in 2021, he went 1-0 in 2012, 1-0 in 2013, 3-0 in 2014, 2-0 in 2015, 4-0 in 2016, 0-1 in 2017, 0-1 in 2018, 0-1 in 2019 and 1-0 in 2020. Garbrandt makes his flyweight debut in a three-round feature opposite Kai Kara France.

8: Seconds needed for France to punch out Ik Hwan Jang under the Pacific Rim Organized Fighting banner on May 9, 2015. Having occurred six-plus years ago, it remains the fastest finish of the City Kickboxing export’s 32-fight career.

52: Rounds completed by Raulian Paiva across his 24 professional assignments. He has gone the distance on 15 occasions and sports a 14-1 record in those bouts. Paiva locks horns with Sean O’Malley in a three-round bantamweight attraction.

5: Organizations in which O’Malley has fought as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 6-1 in the UFC, 5-0 in Intense Championship Fighting, 1-0 in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, 1-0 in Dana White’s Contender Series and 1-0 in Extreme Beatdown.

36: Years of age for “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 22 winner Ryan Hall. The oldest fighter on the card, he was born on Feb. 22, 1985 in Arlington, Virginia. Hall faces Darrick Minner in an intriguing undercard pairing at 145 pounds.

22: Years of age for Erin Blanchfield. The youngest fighter on the card, she was born on May 4, 1999 in Elmwood, New Jersey. Blanchfield confronts Miranda Maverick in a three-round women’s flyweight prelim.

.795: Cumulative winning percentage between the 28 fighters scheduled to compete at the event. They boast a combined record of 450-115-1. Oliveira owns the most wins (31) of anyone on the card, while Minner has been saddled with the most losses (12). Advertisement
