Expect a hungry, fired up Branch to come out at UFC on ESPN 2 this weekend in Philadelphia. After all, he has never lost two bouts in a row. Here are a few more numbers that have defined the career of the Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu standout.
6: Wins without a loss to start his professional career. Branch
tallied his first three victories fighting under regional
promotions and was signed by Bellator
MMA. He sealed his promotional debut with another finish, after
which he fought for another regional promotion and returned to
Bellator. All six of his triumphs were via finish.
2: Straight victories since dropping his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut. After losing to Gerald Harris, Branch racked up two wins at the expense of Tomasz Drwal and Rich Attonito. His victory over Drwal marked the first time Branch reached the final bell.
11: Consecutive victories is the longest winning streak of his career. After pushing Anthony Johnson to three full rounds at Titan FC 22, Branch compiled 11 wins, most of which were at World Series of Fighting. The last one came at the expense of Krzysztof Jotko in Branch’s return to the Octagon.
39: Significant strikes landed on Jotko, which is his highest output in a UFC match. In their UFC 211 encounter, Branch also scored two takedowns, which helped him win by split decision.
101: Seconds is the fastest finish in his career. It happened at WSOF 10 where he submitted Jesse Taylor by brabo choke to win the World Series of Fighting middleweight tournament.
4: Submission wins in WSOF, which is a record in the promotion. His victims were Jesse Taylor, Jesse McElligott, Teddy Holder and Louis Taylor.
1: Right hook was all it took for him to drop Santos in a major upset. Prior to their meeting, the Brazilian had only lost twice in 10 bouts. Branch managed to stop him in just one round. After dropping “Marreta,” Branch rained down a few more punches to secure the victory.
40: Percent striking accuracy inside the UFC. After eight Octagon appearances, Branch landed 136 out of the 338 significant strikes he threw.
33: Percent takedown accuracy inside the Octagon. Branch has shown some wrestling smarts, having completed 14 out of the 43 takedowns he attempted. Four of which came against Attonito at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale.
3: UFC fights were he scored at least three takedowns. Apart from the four takedowns he scored on Attonito, he landed three each on Drwal and Cannonier.
5: Losses in his professional career. These were to Harris, Rousimar Palhares, Johnson, Luke Rockhold and Cannonier.
