By the Numbers: Mike Perry

Mike Perry is one of the most electrifying prospects in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s welterweight division. Put him in the Octagon with anyone and you can expect an entertaining brawl, especially when that someone goes by the name Donald Cerrone.

This weekend, the two 170-pounders will fire up Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado in what could be a standup war from start to finish. As “Platinum” prepares for the biggest fight of his career, take a look at the numbers that have come to define the Jackson-Wink MMA standout.

27: Years old. Perry was born in Flint, Michigan on Sept. 15, 1991.

11: Amateur MMA fights, with a record of 8-3. In September 2014, he made his professional debut in an event called Top Alliance Combat 3.

1: Boxing fight on his resume. After his second professional MMA bout, Perry tried his hands at boxing and was defeated by Kenneth McNeil via TKO in round 4.

4: First-round finishes to start his professional career. Perry would go on to win five more in similar fashion -- so far -- the last two of which were in the UFC.

1: Round needed to impress in his Octagon debut. After going 7-0 in the regional circuit, Perry was tapped to face Hyun Gyu Lim on short notice at UFC 202. He dropped a surging Lim with a left and followed it up with a couple more punches, reason for referee John McCarthy to stop the fight at 3:38.

2: Straight victories to start his UFC career. Following his TKO of Lim, Perry was matched up against fellow prospect, Danny Roberts. They engaged in a back-and-forth battle, with Perry stepping on the gas in Round 3 with a knockout victory.

3: Rounds lasted in the first loss of his career. Perry lost to Alan Jouban at UFC on Fox 22, ending his nine-fight winning streak.

2: Rounds needed to beat arguably his most high-profile opponent at the time. Perry knocked out Jake Ellenberger at 1:05 of Round 2 in their UFC Fight Night 108 encounter with a blistering level elbow strike. For the win, he earned a $50,000 performance bonus.

2: Performance of the Night awards. After his career-defining triumph over Ellenberger, he earned another Performance of the Night bonus with a devastating knee KO of Alex Reyes at UFC Fight Night 116.

1: Instance of back-to-back losses in his career. Perry suffered consecutive losses to Santiago Ponzinibbio and Max Griffin.

11: Victories by knockout. Apart from Ellenberger, Reyes, Roberts and Lim, he also starched Hector Tirado, James Rodriguez, Preston Parsons, Michael Roberts, Jon Manley, Frank Carrillo and David Mundell.

0: Victories by submission. Perry is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt but has yet to tap anyone out in professional MMA competition.

2: Takedowns scored on Paul Felder, which was a deciding factor for Perry’s split decision victory at UFC 226. According to Fightmetric, “Platinum” also landed 62 significant strikes as opposed to Felder’s 56.
