Aleksandar Rakic is ready to make a move in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight division.

The 28-year-old Austria-based fighter overpowered former title challenger Anthony Smith for three rounds, winning a clear-cut unanimous decision in the UFC Fight Night 175 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Though the performance was not particularly enthralling, Rakic has won five of six bouts within the Las Vegas-based promotion. Smith, meanwhile, has dropped three of his last four appearances.

101: Total strikes by which Rakic outlanded Smith. “Rocket” outlanded his foe 39 to 13 in Round 1, 61 to 18 in Round 2 and 41 to 9 in Round 3. Rakic also held a 44-to-9 edge in significant strikes landed.

21: Significant leg strikes landed by Rakic. That included a low kick that resulted in a knockdown of Smith in the opening stanza of the main event.

12: Minutes of ground control for Rakic, who dominated position despite not attempting a single takedown over the course of the 15-minute affair.

17: Victories in UFC competition for Neil Magny. That’s the second most in the history of the welterweight division behind only pound-for-pound legend Georges St. Pierre. Magny earned a dominant decision win over former 170-pound champion Robbie Lawler in the UFC Fight Night 175 co-main event.

3: Victories in 2020 for Magny, tying him with Merab Dvalishvili, Daniel Rodriguez and Youssef Zalal for the most of anyone within the Las Vegas-based promotion.

116: Total strikes landed by Magny. By comparison, Lawler landed 41. Magny also held a 62-to-26 advantage in significant strikes.

1-5: Record for Lawler dating back to his title fight loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 in July 2016.

88: Significant strikes landed by Alexa Grasso in a three-round verdict against Ji Yeon Kim at strawweight. Grasso landed 51 significant strikes to the head, 19 to the body and 18 to the legs. Kim, meanwhile, landed 68 significant strikes — 61 one of which were head shots.

11: Featherweight triumphs for Ricardo Lamas, tying him with Cub Swanson for the third most in UFC history. Only Max Holloway (16) and Darren Elkins (13) have more victories. “The Bully” pulled away from short-notice foe Bill Algeo for a unanimous verdict in a featured bout on Saturday night.

104: Significant strikes landed by Lamas, his most in 17 career bouts in the Octagon. Lamas’ previous best of 70 came in a third-round TKO win over Darren Elkins in November 2018. Algeo landed 85 significant strikes in defeat.

5: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts for Lamas, also a UFC career high. “The Bully” landed his previous best of three takedowns on two occasions.

43: Total strike advantage (66 to 23) for Algeo in Round 2, when he rocked Lamas with a knee late in the frame. Overall, the two featherweights combined for 272 total strikes.

85: Significant strikes landed by recent Contender Series competitor Impa Kasanganay in a three-round verdict over Maki Pitolo at middleweight. In improving to 8-0 as a professional, Kasanganay outlanded his opponent 30 to 19 in Round 2 and 27 to 21 in Round 3. Pitolo, meanwhile, held a 31-to-28 edge in significant strikes in the opening stanza.

4: Straight submissions to begin UFC Fight Night 175. The record for consecutive submissions on a card in the modern era is five, which occurred at two different events: UFC Fight Night 90 “Dos Anjos vs. Alvarez” and UFC 204 “Bisping vs. Henderson 2.” UFC Fight Night 90 is the only card to begin with five straight submissions. Saturday’s streak ended at four when a middleweight tilt between Zak Cummings and Alessio Di Chirico went the distance.

3: Consecutive UFC triumphs for Alex Caceres following a rear-naked choke win over Austin Springer in a featherweight affair. That is the longest official winning streak of “Bruce Leeroy’s” 23-bout Octagon tenure, though he did have a five-bout unbeaten streak from July 2012 to January 2014 that was marred by a no contest due to a failed drug test in the midst of that run.

13-0: Career record for Sean Brady, who tapped out Christian Aguilera for his third UFC triumph in a preliminary welterweight bout.

1:53: Time of Polyana Viana’s first-round armbar of Emily Whitmire in a preliminary 115-pound contest. That checks in as the fifth-fastest submission in UFC strawweight history. Coincidentally, Whitmire set the record with a 61-second tapout of Aleksandra Albu at UFC on ESPN 1.

27: Significant strike deficit for Mallory Martin in a second-round submission triumph over Hannah Cifers in the evening’s opening bout. That is the second-largest comeback for a finish in the history of the women’s strawweight division. Alex Chambers holds the top sport after being outlanded by 37 significant strikes in a third-round submission of Kailin Curran at UFC Fight Night 65.
