By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo

It was a little bit of déjà vu for Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson in Brazil.

Almost two years to the day that he knocked out Henderson for the first time, another Belfort head kick led to his rival’s demise in their rubber match in the UFC Fight Night “Belfort vs. Henderson 3” headliner on Saturday night. “The Phenom” put his Henderson on wobbly legs with a left high kick before putting a halt to the middleweight bout with a flurry of follow-up punches on the ground at the 2:07 mark of round one. It was something of a redemptive victory for Belfort, who proved that he is capable of succeeding without artificial means.

Elsewhere, Glover Teixeira continued to put the two-fight skid of 2014 in his rearview mirror, as he dispatched former All-American wrestler Patrick Cummins via technical knockout 1:12 into round two in the evening’s co-main event. 6: Significant strikes landed by Belfort before the bout was stopped. Meanwhile, Henderson landed three significant strikes -- all leg kicks. In their 2013 meeting, Belfort outlanded Henderson by a 12-to-1 margin.

728: Days since the last meeting between Henderson and Belfort, which ended with “The Phenom” winning via head-kick knockout 77 seconds into the opening frame in Goiania, Brazil.

6: Finishes in UFC competition for Glover Teixeira, who stopped Patrick Cummins via technical knockout in the second round of their light heavyweight encounter. That figure is the most in the 205-pound division since 2012.

19: Significant strikes by which Teixeira outlanded Cummins in round two before finishing the fight at the 1:12 mark. The first round was much more competitive statistically, with the Brazilian holding a 32-to-30 edge in significant strikes.

4: Takedowns landed, in five attempts, in the opening frame for Cummins. However, the former Penn State University wrestling star was unable to hold his adversary down for any significant period of time.

30: Career takedowns landed by Patrick Cummins, No. 3 among active UFC light heavyweights behind Rashad Evans (50) and Ryan Bader (41).

3: Consecutive KO/TKO victories in the Octagon for Thomas Almeida following his violent first-round stoppage of Anthony Birchak in a featured bantamweight contest. That ties the Brazilian with reigning champion T.J. Dillashaw for the most consecutive knockouts in UFC/WEC history.

4: Consecutive Octagon triumphs for Almeida, tying him with Dillashaw for the second longest active streak in the division behind Raphael Assuncao (seven).

16: First-round finishes in 20 professional victories for Almeida following his jaw-dropping stoppage of Birchak. The Brazillian has also finished Yves Jabouin inside of a round in the Octagon.

6: Takedowns landed, in 15 attempts, by Corey Anderson in his three-round verdict over Fabio Maldonado. That is the most takedowns landed against Maldonado by any opponent during the Brazilian’s 11-bout UFC tenure.

107: Difference in total strikes attempted by Anderson (185) and Maldonado (78), a former professional boxer. Anderson outlanded his foe 97 to 49 in total strikes overall.

17: UFC triumphs for Gleison Tibau following his controversial submission win over Abel Trujillo. If the victory stands, that ties him with Michael Bisping for third most in promotion history.

84: Career takedowns for Tibau, No. 1 among active fighters and No. 2 all-time behind Georges St. Pierre (87). The Brazilian landed two takedowns in his brief clash vs. Trujillo.

90: Total strikes landed by Johnny Case. By comparison, Yan Cabral, his opponent, landed 41. Cabral, meanwhile, landed the bout’s only three takedowns and passed guard five times but lost a unanimous decision to his American opponent.

0:39: Time of Thiago Tavares’ first-round guillotine tapout of Clay Guida, the third-fastest submission in UFC/WEC featherweight history. Only Josh Grispi (33 seconds at WEC 41) and Jens Pulver (35 seconds at WEC 31) have quicker submission triumphs at 145 pounds.

61: Career takedowns for Guida, tying him with Frankie Edgar for second most among active UFC fighters. “The Carpenter” paid dearly for his lone takedown against Tavares, as he immediately found himself ensnared in what would turn out to be the fight-ending choke.

40: Significant strikes by which Viscardi Andrade outlanded Gasan Umalatov in their welterweight clash. Andrade returned from more than a year layoff to take a unanimous verdict over Umalatov on Saturday night.

162: Significant strikes landed by Jimmie Rivera (96 of 233) and Pedro Munhoz (66 of 183) in a spirited 135-pound matchup. Rivera outlanded his foe in each round to capture a split-decision triumph.

17: Consecutive victories for Rivera following his win over Munhoz. In addition to two UFC wins, “El Terror” has garnered victories in Bellator MMA, World Series of Fighting, Cage Fury Fighting Championships, Ring of Combat and King of the Cage.

3: Combined knockdowns landed by Matheus Nicolau Pereira (two) and Bruno Rodrigues (one) in their bantamweight scrap to open the UFC Fight Night card. Nicolau won the contest via third-round submission.
