Bruce Boyington to Face John Ortolani at Fight Night V
Oct 10, 2012 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Lewiston, Maine (October 7, 2012) – New England
Fights! (NEF) is proud to announce the addition of a lightweight
bout to its Fight Night V card between Bruce
Boyington (3-3) and John
Ortolani (6-6). Fight Night V is scheduled to take place on
November 17, 2012 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston,
Maine.
"This is a really exciting bout and we're overjoyed to have added it to an already-solid pro card," stated NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. "Bruce Boyington is one of the most popular of the NEF regulars. John Ortolani has a huge fan base that travels to every corner of New England to watch him fight. The crowd is going to be on fire when this fight goes off on November 17!"
Bruce
Boyington, who trains out of Young's MMA in Brewer, Maine, rose
to international stardom with a Taekwondo spin kick knockout of
Keegan
Hornstra on June 16 in Lewiston. That knockout subsequently
aired on national cable television outlet AXS TV's "Inside MMA"
show. Within days, videos of the knock-out had gone viral on social
media. To date, it has over 200,000 views on the NEF and AXS TV
Youtube pages.
""You don't see much Taekwondo in MMA," said NEF co-owner and matchmaker Matt Peterson. "So when Bruce scored with that kick, it was really something special. He's not a one-trick pony though. I know he wants to get back in the title picture in NEF. A win at Fight Night V would put him right back near the top of the ladder in the lightweight division."
That win, however, will not come easily if John Ortolani has his say. Ortolani, a professional lacrosse midfielder currently with the Rochester Rattlers and formerly the Boston Cannons with whom he won the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Championship, has faced a high level of MMA opponents throughout his career, most recently taking on undefeated Lucas Cruz (5-0), Don Carlo-Clauss (10-7) and "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 15's Mike Rio (8-1). Ortolani trains out of and instructs at Triumph BJJ in Nashua, NH.
"I am very excited to fight for NEF," stated Ortolani when reached for comment. "They put on a great show and I've heard they are a great group to work with. I am also excited for the fight with Bruce. He is a dangerous fighter with one of the best knockout kicks I have ever seen at any level. It should be an exciting fight and I know the fans won't be left in their seats when it's over."
Fight Night V is slated for November 17 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, ME with a special start time of 5:00 PM. For more information on this event, visit www.NewEnglandFights.com.
