Prestige FC signs Southern to exclusive deal

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Prestige FC is immensely proud to announce that
Kurt
Southern has signed an exclusive deal with the organization
that includes a title fight in his next bout.
Southern (14-6) became Canada’s top-ranked featherweight when he scored a spectacular first-round submission victory over Daniel Swain at the inaugural Prestige FC event in October. The fight was Southern’s first in the featherweight division, and he now finds himself locked into a shot at the very first championship fight in Prestige FC history.
Southern’s featherweight title fight will headline Prestige 2 with
his opponent along with the date and location for the matchup to be
announced very shortly.
“We are very pleased to have Kurt signed to an exclusive contract and for him to be competing for our first championship belt,” said Cord Crowthers, CEO & Matchmaker for Prestige FC.
Prior to his debut in the featherweight division at Prestige FC 1, Southern was a top-level competitor in the lightweight ranks with notable victories over Jonatas Novaes, Mukai Maromo, Jorge Britto, and Brad Cardinal. Southern, who hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, honed his skills over the last year, teaming up with Duane “Bang” Ludwig, one of the hottest coaches in all of mixed martial arts, and taking those abilities to his own new gym, Modern Martial Arts in Saskatoon.
That revamped skillset has given Southern (Twitter: @KurtSouthern) a set of talents that are going to be tough to beat in the featherweight division with an exciting combination of solid wrestling, ever-improving jiu-jitsu, and now a wide array of striking abilities thanks to Ludwig’s tutelage.
Southern, who has finished his opponents in 11 of his 14 wins – three by knockout and eight via submission – is up for the challenge of a featherweight title fight and Prestige FC is already sourcing out the right foe to provide an electrifying rivalry for the belt.
“Kurt has made it very clear, and always has throughout his career, that he will fight whoever is put in front of him. He is not the kind of fighter who picks and chooses opponents which makes him even more of a fighter that Prestige FC wants,” added Crowthers.
“The upcoming featherweight title fight will be outstanding – one that deservedly fits being a main event and with the winner wearing the first-ever Prestige FC championship belt.”

“Kurt is an accomplished fighter who deserves this opportunity, but
just as important is the fact that he is an upstanding young man.
He handles all of his business as a professional, he is respectful,
and he competes full-out every single time he enters the cage.”
