Tacoma's Drew Brokenshire Targets CageSport Lightweight Title
Apr 25, 2014 Comments
(PRESS RELEASE) -- Tacoma, WA – CageSport featherweight champion,
Drew
Brokenshire (9-1), is preparing to take on his toughest
challenge yet, scheduled to square off against rising MMA star and
lightweight champion, Justin
Harrington (6-0), in the main event of CageSport 30 at the
Emerald Queen Casino. Brokenshire is currently riding a five fight
win streak and has hinted at the possibility of moving onto the big
stage following his scheduled fight against Harrington.
A limited amount of tickets for CageSport 30, scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA are on sale and can be purchased at the EQC box office and online through Ticketmaster. Prices start at $35. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets early, as the event is expected to be a sellout.
Brokenshire burst onto the northwest fight scene in 2012, winning
his first four fights before being set back in a fight against
Lee
Morrison, who is currently fighting for Russia’s leading MMA
promotion, M-1 Global. Since the defeat, Brokenshire has gone on to
win five in a row, most recently defeating four time Oregon high
school state wrestling champion, Talon
Hofman, via third round rear naked choke at CageSport 29 to
defend his featherweight title for the third time.
Brokenshire’s opponent, Justin Harrington, has already made a big splash in the local MMA scene, capturing the CageSport lightweight title only six fights into his professional MMA career. In Harrington’s six professional fights, none of them have gone the distance and only one has even reached the third round.
“When my coach and I first discussed this matchup we liked it because we thought it would be such a good fight,” said Brokenshire when asked why asked for a fight with Harrington. “He will be the most well rounded fighter I have probably ever fought. He is also very athletic and strong which will make him even more dangerous. I am on a five fight win streak and no one around is close to that, that I know of. We want to step up to face the toughest opponents we can.”
Immediately after announcing the fight, Brokenshire hinted at the possibility that this could be his last fight in the region.
“I believe I am ready for bouts outside of the state. I have faced many of the best guys from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. I am prepared to branch out and face the best the rest of the United States has to offer. This fight is the perfect match to send me on my way. It gives everyone who wants to a chance to see me one last time in my home town before I begin the rest of my career traveling, and chasing World Titles. It also gives the fans what I hope will be one of the biggest and most exciting CageSport shows anyone has ever seen!”
Doors for CageSport 30 open at 6 PM with the first fight scheduled for 7 PM.
