(PRESS RELEASE) -- FRESNO, CA – For the 3rd straight year, UP &
COMERS will host the Northern California Semi-Finals for the Camo
State Championship September 22, 2012 at Chukchansi Gold Resort &
Casino. With the growth of amateur MMA in California, several local
fighters will make a run at a State Championship during UPC 12.
UPC has been a leader in developing top amateur fighters and will look to put its brand on the line at UPC 12. 2011 Heavyweight State Champion & UPC product Leo Cantu will look for his 2nd state title as he drops to Cruiserweight. Jason Weiner, UPC President stated, “Leo is your classic MMA athlete; he is quite, strong as an ox and very disciplined when he enters the cage” “Leo brought the belt home to Kerman, Ca. last year by upsetting the #1 fighter in California, but it’s always tougher to repeat.” Cantu will put his #1 ranking and undefeated record (4-0-1) on the line as he faces a tough and equally disciplined opponent in Myles Shaw from Dynamic MMA in Modesto.
The Tournament’s Main Event will feature UPC Lightweight Champion Sandor Escobar, (6-1) ranked #7, facing his toughest opponent to date in #3 ranked JJ Okanovich from San Jose. “This is why the sport of MMA is so great, small town vs big city, Team KO vs Nor-Cal Fight Factory, underdog vs heavy favorite!” Jason added. Nor-Cal Fight Factory has a reputation of developing some of the best fighters in the bay area, and Okanovich is following in those footsteps. Team KO is a rising gym in the South Valley and Escobar is their man. He will have to fight the perfect fight and rally behind the large fan support that he draws.
With 6 fighters ranked in the State of California and 2 defending State Champions, UPC 12 is set to offer another great night of MMA action.
UPC 12 takes place September 22 at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino in Coarsegold, Ca. Tickets can be purchase online at www.upcunlimited.com or at Buffalo Wild Wings in Fresno.
