Marlon Vera admits upcoming opponent Sean O'Malley has a flair for building up a fight through the media.
However, don’t expect Vera to purposefully jump into the fray to further promote their UFC 252 co-main event matchup. The man known as “Chito” is too busy with life and all its trappings. Plus, in his mind, if O’Malley really had something negative to say to him it would have been done in person long ago, and not over social media or in interviews, like O’Malley recently did when he referred to Vera’s striking as “decent” in an interview with MMAJunkie.
“Personally, I don’t give two fuc*s about what he says. I focus on myself, and I’m ready to go,” Vera told Sherdog. “We can say everything we want to build the fight. He’s actually pretty decent at building fights [and] talking sh*t. You’ve got idiots like Petr Yan or Cody Garbrandt answering to every single Tweet he posts. It’s like a fight between two brothers. One is like talking sh*t and tell you something, and you keep answering, and answering. The more you answer the more frustrated you are. I don’t answer to bullsh*t and baby talk. I’ve been face-to-face with him, and he doesn’t say sh*t. If I see you face-to-face and shake your hand, then I go home and tweet something, I’m a f*cking weak b*tch. I’m a real fighter. If someone pushes me, or punches me and wants to fight me, I’m going to fight. But if you’re just social media stuff, and then you see all the casual fans go ‘ooo,’ I don’t have time for that. I got three kids. I got a f*cking dog. I’ve got my wife that I need to take care of. I’m busy.”
In his conversation with Sherdog, “Chito” spoke in-depth about his upcoming fight inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and if O’Malley’s striking is legit or hype, and if he plans to test the upstart’s grappling acumen like never before.
