Royler Gracie: Hard to Ignore Sonnen’s Ignorance
Marcelo Alonso Aug 15, 2011
Three-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World
Championships gold medalist Royler
Gracie will meet Masakatsu
Ueda in his mixed martial arts swan song under the Amazon
Forest Combat banner on Sept. 14 in his native Brazil. The
45-year-old Brazilian did not mince words when the discussion
turned to
UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen
(Pictured) during a recent interview with Sherdog.com. Sonnen has
made derogatory statements regarding a number of Brazilian fighters
in recent years:
“Chael Sonnen said some unfortunate things in those interviews. Insulting a fighter is one thing, but confronting a whole nation puts you in serious trouble when you set foot there. He made malicious, misinformed statements. He earned dislike from Brazilians and from many other fighters who respect our country. I don’t know [what to expect from the crowd at UFC 134, when he corners Yushin Okami], but it’s hard to ignore such an ignorant person. He should apologize for what he’s been saying. Not everyone’s going to keep quiet after being called names.”
