Sherdog’s Top 10: UFC Welterweight Title Fights
Top 10
Since it was brought into existence on Oct. 16, 1998 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, nine men have strapped the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title to their waist. It has been passed from Pat Miletich, Carlos Newton, Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre to Matt Serra, Johny Hendricks, Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley. Their respective reigns have led to some of the most memorable fights in UFC history.
Hughes and St. Pierre stand head and shoulders above the rest in a historical context, at least for the time being. Together, they have combined to sit on the 170-pound throne for 3,781 days -- equivalent to more than 10 calendar years. Perhaps it was fitting that Hughes and St. Pierre engaged in a memorable trilogy with one another, GSP holding a 2-1 edge in the head-to-head series.
The latest installment of the Sherdog Top 10 series examines the best of the best among UFC welterweight title fights:
