By the Numbers: UFC 248
The ordering process for Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-views has changed: UFC 248 is only available on ESPN+ in the U.S.
It was, indeed, a tale of two fights.

On the other hand, Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk put on an all-time classic in the evening’s co-main event. Ultimately, Zhang retained her strawweight crown with a split-decision triumph that could very well go down as the greatest women’s fight of all-time.
Despite their differences, both fights nonetheless produced some
interesting facts and figures to examine. Here is a by-the-numbers
look at UFC 248, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.
88: Combined significant strikes landed by Adesanya and Romero, the 17th fewest in a five-round UFC title fight that went the distance. Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca combined to land 41 significant strikes at UFC 73, which is still the lowest total in promotion history. Adesanya outlanded Romero by a 48-to-40 count in a relatively pedestrian affair.
6: Combined significant strikes landed by Adesanya (two) and Romero (four) in Round 1.
25: Significant leg strikes landed by Adesanya, who did his best work attacking his opponent with low kicks. By comparison, Romero landed 13 significant leg strikes.
8: Consecutive victories for Adesanya, tying him with Robert Whittaker and Romero for the third-longest winning streak in UFC middleweight history. Anderson Silva owns the longest all-time winning streak with 13 straight victories, and fellow former champ Chris Weidman is second with nine.
0: Takedowns landed in three attempts by Romero, an Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling.
351: Combined significant strikes landed by Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk in their strawweight championship clash, the third most ever in a UFC fight. Max Holloway and Brian Ortega set the record when they combined for 400 significant strikes at UFC 231.
21: Significant strike advantage for Jedrzejczyk. The Polish fighter outlanded her foe 32 to 20 in Round 2 and 46 to 37 in Round 5. Interestingly enough Round 1 (30 to 30), Round 3 (38 to 38) and Round 4 (40 to 40) were all even. However, it was Zhang’s ability to land with more power that likely earned her the victory at the end of the night.
96: Significant head strikes landed by both Jedrzejczyk and Zhang. Both fighters also landed 58 significant leg strikes apiece.
32: Significant body strikes for Jedrzejczyk. By comparison, Zhang landed 11.
5: Consecutive victories for Zhang, tying her with Tatiana Suarez and Xiaonan Yan for the second longest winning streak in UFC strawweight history. The woman she defeated, Jedrzejczyk, is No. 1 all-time with an eight-bout winning streak.

15: Welterweight victories for Neil Magny, tying him with Thiago Alves and Matt Brown for the third most in UFC history. Only Georges St. Pierre (19) and Matt Hughes (16) have more. Magny earned a dominant decision triumph over Jingliang Li in a featured bout at UFC 248.
107: Total strikes by which Magny outlanded Li. The Elevation Fight Team product also held a 74-to-16 edge in significant strikes.
7: Consecutive UFC bouts in which Max Griffin has gone to a decision. Max “Pain” is 2-5 in those contests after falling to Alex Oliveira via split decision in a featured welterweight tilt on Saturday night.
.810: Significant striking accuracy for Sean O’Malley, who landed 18 of 22 attempts against Jose Alberto Quinonez in his first Octagon appearance in two years. Quinonez, by comparison, failed to land any of his 11 attempts before falling via technical knockout 2:02 into the first frame.
8: Takedowns landed in 12 attempts by Olympic silver medalist Mark O. Madsen in a unanimous decision triumph over Austin Hubbard at welterweight. Madsen landed three takedowns apiece in Round 1 and Round 2 and added two more in the final stanza.
41: Significant strikes landed by Hubbard. By comparison, Madsen landed just 15. Hubbard came on strong in the final stanza, outlanding his opponent by a 27-to-6 count.
2: Wins by arm-triangle submission in two UFC appearances for decorated grappler Rodolfo Vieira. The Brazilian used the maneuver to tap Saparbek Safarov 2:58 into Round 1 of their middleweight clash. Vieira has finished six of his seven professional triumphs by way of submission overall.
5: Submission wins in UFC competition for Gerald Meerschaert following his rear-naked choke victory over Deron Winn in a preliminary middleweight affair. That ties him with Antonio Carlos Jr., Thales Leites, Demian Maia and Rousimar Palhares for the most in the history of the UFC middleweight division.
86: Significant strikes landed by Meerschaert. Winn, who was at a significant reach disadvantage, landed 53.
