UFC veteran Junior
Assuncao will lock horns with Luiz Azeredo
at Shine Fights 3 “Worlds Collide” on May 15 at the Crown Coliseum
in Fayetteville, N.C. The event, headlined by a showdown between
former world boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga and American Top
Team’s Din
Thomas, will air live on pay-per-view.
An Atlanta-based Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Assuncao will carry a four-fight winning streak into the bout. The 28-year-old Brazilian last competed in March, when he submitted John Mahlow with a first round guillotine choke under the Xtreme Fighting Championships banner in Tampa, Fla. Assuncao, who holds a victory over UFC welterweight Dustin Hazelett, has delivered six of his 10 wins by submission.
Azeredo has not fought since his July 2008 submission loss to Ronys Torres. Spawned by the famed Chute Boxe Academy, he counts victories over UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and current UFC welterweight contender Paul Daley among his 12 career conquests.
