Alvarez claimed lightweight gold with a first-round TKO stoppage of Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 before losing the strap to McGregor via second-round technical knockout at UFC 205. The ex-Bellator MMA titlist also owns triumphs over Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez in the Octagon.
After beginning his promotional tenure as a featherweight, Poirier has compiled a 5-1 mark at 155 pounds. He bounced back from a first-round knockout loss to Michael Johnson at UFC 208, where he took a majority decision against Jim Miller.
