Mike Davis Pulls Out of UFC Norfolk Clash With Giga Chikadze
Mike Davis will no longer be competing at the upcoming UFC Norfolk card at the end of February.
An undisclosed injury forced the 27-year-old fighter to pull out of his scheduled bout with Giga Chikadze. The news was first reported by MMA Junkie on Wednesday night, and later confirmed to Sherdog by someone with knowledge of the situation. The UFC is still currently searching for a replacement opponent for Chikadze.
Davis' (8-2) latest Octagon appearance dates back to UFC Fight Night 161 in October. That night, "Beast Boy" dominated Thomas Gifford and scored a highlight reel third-round KO. In his eight career wins, Davis has finished seven of those opponents with strikes.
Former Glory kickboxer Chikadze (8-2) is coming off his victorious UFC debut, where he edged Brandon Davis by split decision at UFC Fight Night 160 in September. Prior to that, the Kings MMA representative forced Damien Manzanares and Clay Baines to tap out under the Gladiator Challenge banner. Like his former opponent, Chikadze also sports a finish rate of 87 percent.
UFC Fight Night 169 will go down at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, on Feb. 29. The main event will feature a flyweight title clash for the vacant strap between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo.
