An injury has forced Tor Troeng to withdraw from his UFC 171 showdown with “The Ultimate Fighter 17” castmate Bubba McDaniel.
Unbeaten King of the Cage veteran Sean Strickland will take Troeng’s place on less than two weeks’ notice at the March 15 event. The UFC announced the change on Monday. UFC 171 takes place at American Airlines Arena in Dallas and is headlined by a welterweight title tilt between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.
Strickland, 23, is 13-0 as a professional, with 10 triumphs by knockout, technical knockout or submission. All but one of the Cquence Jiu-Jitsu representative’s bouts have been under the KOTC banner. He competed three times in 2013, most recently stopping Matt Lagler inside of a round at KOTC “Split Decision” in August.
The 30-year-old McDaniel submitted Gilbert Smith at the “TUF 17” finale before dropping a unanimous decision to Brad Tavares at UFC Fight Night 27 in August. The Jackson’s MMA product owns 16 of his 21 career victories by way of submission.
