Sara McMann will return to the Octagon for the first time since a failed title bid against Ronda Rousey, as the Olympic silver medalist faces Lauren Murphy on Aug. 16.
Promotion officials announced the women’s bantamweight pairing on Thursday. UFC Fight Night "Bader vs. St. Preux" takes place at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, and is headlined by a light heavyweight tilt between Ryan Bader and Ovince St. Preux. The card, which airs on Fox Sports 1, also features a middleweight scrap pitting Brad Tavares against Tim Boetsch.
McMann began her MMA career with seven consecutive wins – including a first-round stoppage of Sheila Gaff in her UFC debut – before succumbing to a knee to the body from Rousey in the opening frame at UFC 170. McMann owns notable triumphs over Shayna Baszler and Hitomi Akano.
Meanwhile, Murphy captured the inaugural Invicta Fighting Championships 135-pound strap with a victory over Miriam Nakamoto this past December. The 30-year-old Alaskan was 3-0 with Invicta, also posting triumphs over Kaitlin Young and Sarah D’Alelio.
