(PRESS RELEASE) -- Atlantic City, NJ – There will be two titles on
the line when CFFC 28 comes to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in
Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday October 26, 2013. In the main
event, former UFC top contender Charlie
Brenneman (18-5) continues to climb the lightweight ranks when
he battles Kyle Baker
(11-4) for the vacant lightweight title. Brenneman hasn’t lost
since his UFC departure and has won three in a row since going down
to the lightweight division. With a successful run at the
welterweight division, Baker also looks to find new success at the
lightweight division. This will be his first fight at 155 pounds
and no better to make a statement then capturing the CFFC
crown.
The other title up for grabs is the CFFC heavyweight crown that will pit the prospect, Chris Birchler (5-0) versus the veteran Johnny Curtis (8-2). After starting his career at 4-0, Birchler took on Joe Stripling for the vacant CFFC heavyweight title in June of this year and edged out the veteran via decision to continue his undefeated dominance. Curtis is currently riding a seven fight win streak heading into this fight and hasn’t lost since 2008. Birchler’s first title defense will be his toughest challenge to date.
In another featured bout, Jordan
Stiner (5-0) will battle Jarred Marcado (10-0) in a fight with
title implications. After turning pro in 2012, Stiner has stopped
four out of his five opponents and most recently submitted Donald
Ooton in August of 2013 by rear naked choke in the third round.
Ooton was undefeated at the time and the Renzo Gracie
protégé hopes to knock another undefeated fighter off on October
26. With an impressive wrestling background in New Jersey, Mercado
moved to Colorado and continued his MMA career. In Mercado’s last
fight, he captured a title and hasn’t lost a fight in the pro or
amateur ranks. He hopes his return to his hometown will result in
another victoty.
One of the fights that the winner of Stiner and Mercado will be looking at is the featherweight tournament fight between Jeff Lentz (9-3-1) and Gemiyale Adkins. Lentz will fighting after a year-long layoff and hopes to impress in his CFFC debut. He’s fought a who’s who in MMA and a win here would put him one step closer to CFFC gold. His opponent, Adkins, gave Charlie Brenneman all he could handle in his last fight. Although it wasn’t the result he hoped for, Adkins knows that a victory here could catapult his career.
