Marcin Tybura took the path of least resistance against Tai Tuivasa.
After being bloodied by some heavy shots on the feet early on, Tybura dragged the Aussie knockout artist into his world, unloading with ground-and-pound before rendering his opponent unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the opening round of the UFC Fight Night 239 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Tybura is now 8-2 in UFC bouts dating back to 2020, and he remains a fixture in the heavyweight rankings at No. 7. Tuivasa, meanwhile, has dropped four straight — all inside the distance — and falls to No. 12 in Sherdog’s latest divisional poll.
Elsewhere, history repeated itself in a rematch between Macy Chiasson and Pannie Kianzad, as Chiasson secured her second rear-naked choke victory over “Banzai” in a featured bantamweight clash at UFC Fight Night 239. As a result, Chiasson enters the women’s 135-pound rankings at No. 9, but she exits the featherweight poll due to inactivity in that weight class. That clears the way for Bellator MMA athlete Katerina Shakalova to make her rankings debut.
