Round 1
Viloria comes out hard, winging lefts and rights but Gonzalez avoids them. Viloria digs a left hook to the body and then lands a glancing right to the head. Gonzalez remains calm, looking for the spot to open up. “The Hawaiian Punch” is very aggressive still, taking the fight right to the champ. A few jabs by Viloria while Gonzalez just follows him around. Viloria tags his foe with a right to the head and then the body. Gonzalez finally opens up late and he lands a blistering left uppercut to the head just before the bell. 10-9 ViloriaRound 2
Viloria storms out of his corner and slams an overhand right to the champ’s head. A few jabs from the Hawaiian and then a double left hook. Viloria lands a hard left and then a right to the ribs. “Chocolatito” connects with a hard uppercut on the inside and Viloria backs off. Left hook to the body from the champ. Another. Viloria grimaces briefly before throwing a right upstairs. Gonzalez is heating up and letting his hands go much more this round. Straight left, followed by a right cross by the Nicaraguan, forcing Brian to back off again. Hard left hook to the guts by Gonzalez, but Viloria comes right back with one of his own. Good exchanges late. 10-9 Gonzalez.Round 3
They stand right in the center of the ring and trade some serious leather. Good toe-to-toe action brief action. Short right hook on the inside drops Viloria. He’s up and he is hurt badly. Gonzalez rips a furious assault to the head and Viloria is in deep trouble. Brian is wobbly but he’s fighting back. Gonzalez continues to bomb away but Viloria is hanging tough but he’s got a lot of time left. Lead right to the head by Viloria as he starts to clear his head. Left hook to the head and body by Viloria, who storms right back into the fight. “Chocolatito” nails him with another short right hook and Viloria’s legs buckle again. Viloria survives the round. 10-8 Gonzalez.Round 4
They trade jabs as soon as the round starts. Gonzalez slams a lead right to the body and then a left to the head. Left hook to the body by the champ but Viloria comes right back with a combo to the head and body. Hard left hook by “The Hawaiian Punch” rocks Gonzalez, who backs off momentarily. A combo to the head by the champ changes the course and now Viloria is on his heels. Jab, jab, right by Viloria but Gonzalez walks right through them. “Chocolatito” opens up his arsenal and delivers an eight-punch flurry; all the Hawaiian can do is cover up. Brutal left hook to the ribs by Gonzalez, but Viloria answers with one of his own. 10-9 Gonzalez.Round 5
Nice jab by Viloria starts the frame but the champ answers with a vicious three-punch combo to the head. Hard left to the body by Gonzalez, and then another. Viloria keeps coming, though, making it a terrific brawl. Viloria touches him with a lead left before backing off. “Chocolatito” chases him and slams a double left to the head but his follow-up right misses. Another wicked left to the guts by the champ, who continues to pressure his challenger to the head and body. Viloria stands right in there and bangs with him, but his punches don’t have the same zing to them. Gonzalez continues to walk him and down and rake the body. A double left hook to the head by Viloria, but the Nicaraguan answers with a blistering overhand right. 10-9 Gonzalez.Round 6
Viloria paws with a series of jabs but he’s too far away for them to land. Gonzalez slams another nasty left to the body and Viloria backs away to take a deep breath. Right-left to the melon for the champ and Viloria looks like he’s starting to wilt. Some redness and swelling appears on Viloria’s right cheek as Gonzalez continues to pound away at him. “Chocolatito” is in pure Terminator mode, looking to end things now. Non-stop punching from Roman, who digs uppercuts to the head and body. Viloria tries to fight back but he’s ready to go. Triple left hook to the head form the champ as Brian tries to answer. Borderline 10-8 round but it’s not. 10-9 Gonzalez.Round 7
Viloria misses a lead right, only to be counter by a right from the champ.”Chocolatito” digs another furious barrage to the body and then comes up top. Left, right, left to the head by the champ. Viloria backs into the ropes as Gonzalez tears into him over and over. Hard lead right to the noggin of Viloria, followed by a sizzling nine-punch combo. Viloria is in way over his head as he swallows yet another wicked right. “The Hawaiian Punch” continues to fight back but he’s not nothing on his shots. They stand forehead-to-forehead and rip into each other, but Gonzalez is much more powerful. 10-9 Gonzalez.Round 8
Viloria is on his bike a little bit to start as Gonzalez chases after him. Right to the head, followed by a left hook to the ribs from the champ. Viloria tags the champ with a nifty flurry upstairs and down, but Gonzalez shrugs it off, only to counter with a 10-punch tornado. Seven more from Gonzalez. Hard lead right to the cantaloupe from the champ backs Viloria off with 70 seconds left. Gonzalez unleashes an absolute storm of punishment, landing 13 unanswered blows. Viloria stumbles and almost falls but he catches himself, somehow surviving the round. 10-8 Gonzalez.Round 9
The ringside doctor checks on Viloria at the start of the round and he’s allowed to continue. Lead right to the skull by “Chocolatito” followed by a left to the body. Viloria flicks out a few jabs but Gonzalez walks through them to unleash another flurry. Stiff left jab by the champ after he pounds on Viloria in a corner. Viloria slams a right to the body and then a powerful left hook upstairs and Gonzalez is hurt. He backs off to regroup and stops throwing. Viloria tries to add to the sting but Gonzalez defends it. Right to the head from Gonzalez. Viloria backs into a corner and is caught by a left hook-left uppercut. He’s rocked and is pelted by a flurry. Viloria’s legs turn to gelatin and he stumbles across to the other corner to his right. Gonzalez is all over him, tearing into his with a fury and Benjy Esteves Jr. has seen enough, finally stopping it.The Official Result

Round 1
Steve Willis is the referee this middleweight championship extravaganza. Lemieux snaps out a nice jab to begin the action. Golovkin does the same. The Canadian reaches with a lead right but there’s nothing on it. Golovkin keeps with the jab, looking to unload a counter. A few more jabs from “GGG” keeps Lemieux at bay. A few more rangy jabs from Golovkin before Lemieux gets inside with a decent left to the body. Overhand right by Golovkin seems to shake up his foe, he backs away. A few more jabs by the crowd favorite, disallowing Lemieux to get into any sort of rhythm. Lemieux tags his opponent to the body twice before the bell. 10-9 Golovkin.Round 2
Jab-left hook by Golovkin and Lemieux backs up. Two rights to the head by Golovkin, but Lemieux storms back with a nice right to the head in return. Golovkin stays with the jab and then another left hook. The Canadian is having a terrible time getting inside to make it a brawl. “GGG” is dominating his foe with that jab; he’s making it look too easy. Left-right to the head is blocked, but Lemieux still feels it. David misses a huge right to the head after landing a jab of his own. Hard left hook to the body from the Kazakhstani. Lemieux is being completely overwhelmed early in the fight. Golovkin nails him with another hard right to the melon. It’s all Gennady. 10-9 Golovkin.Round 3
Lemieux opens the round with more purpose, jabbing a few times and reaching with his right. Golovkin backs away a bit, looking to re-establish his jab. Lead right upstairs from the Montreal fighter over a Golovkin jab. Left to the chest from Golovkin, followed by a right to the head. Slick one-two from Lemieux at the midway point. Golovkin tags his foe with a short left hook on the inside along the ropes. Golovkin tags him with a few jabs with a minute left, frustrating the Canadian. Golovkin taps him with the jab a few more times late and then hits him with a sweeping left hook at the bell. 10-9 Golovkin.Round 4
Lemieux rifles off three straight jabs early, but Golovkin comes back with a left to the noggin. Lemieux is much more aggressive now, but his flurries mostly miss. Golovkin stays behind his jab as he moves off to his right. Lemieux is looking good until another stiff jab disrupts him. A big left hook by “GGG” and Lemieux is rocked badly. Golovkin patiently attacks him, going to the head and body. Lemieux is in some serious peril here but he’s hanging on. Golovkin pokes him with a jabs but Lemieux is stepping in holes, trying to clear his head. Short right uppercut by Golovkin at the bell. 10-8 Golovkin.Round 5
Golovkin pops his foe with a short left hook as the Canadian goes with a double jab. Lemieux goes to the body with a right. Lemieux misses a left hook by a foot, but “GGG” doesn’t counter it. Golovkin tags him with a right to the head a minute in. David dives in but he’s nailed by a right uppercut. They come close and Lemieux drills his foe with a short right hook, his best punch thus far. Golovkin shakes it off and then nails him with a short left. Three-punch combo to the head, followed by a hellacious left hook to the body and Lemieux grimaces. The Canadian backs off and takes a knee, but he’s blasted by a Golovkin right while he’s down. Lemieux is up but he’s ready to go. Golovkin, who was warned for the blow while David was down, closes in but he runs out of time to end it. 10-8 Golovkin.Round 6
Left-right by Golovkin rocks Lemieux immediately. Another right to the ear for “GGG”, who is ready to end things now. Lemieux is on his bike, looking to survive. Golovkin comes in and is drilled by a huge left hook, but he takes it well. Hard right to the body by Golovkin and it sends the Canadian into the ropes. Another left hook upstairs for Lemieux, but it doesn’t budge “GGG.” David eats a right and then a left, but he comes back with a right to the face. Lemieux digs a hard right to the body late, but Golovkin charges after him. Gennady digs a nasty left-right to the midsection, but he eats a big left hook. Good action late and Lemieux is a live opponent again, by far his best round. 10-9 Golovkin.Round 7
The middleweights trade lefts at the start. Lemieux triples his jab and then tags his foe with a lead right. Hard left hook to the ribs by the Canadian, who is bleeding from his nose. After an exchange, referee Steve Willis calls time to have Lemieux’s nose to be looked at. He’s okay and the fight continues. Left hook by “GGG” is a glancing blow, as is his right cross. They trade jabs a few times before Lemieux drills Golovkin with a hard right to the body. Left hook by the Montreal fighter but Golovkin counters him with a laser of a right hand. Lemieux’s legs wobble a little but he’s fighting back. Three jabs by Golovkin end the round and Lemieux is a bloody, battered mess. 10-9 Golovkin.Round 8
A swift one-two from the Kazakhstani star, followed by another lead right. Lemieux tags his foe with a right and then a left, but it has no affect on him. A triple punch combo upstairs before Golovkin goes to the cellar. Lemieux is hurt and he stumbles into a corner. Golovkin is all over him and then slams another left to the guts. The Canadian champ doubles over and is ready to go. Golovkin closes the show with a flurry and finally, Willis jumps in to rescue Lemieux.The Official Result
