Prichard Colon vs. Terrell Williams

Round 1

The third man in the ring is referee Joseph Cooper. Colon lands a sharp left hook early from a slick angle. Williams is tasting some leather early on, as he appears to have entered the ring dry. Nice left hand from Williams. One-two from Colon finds its target. Colon sneaks in a short, straight right after he faked a straight right. Williams seems surprised by the delivery of Colon early on. Colon lights up his foe with another right hand at the 20-second mark. Interesting opening round, 10-9 Colon.

Round 2

Williams comes out with a double jab, but colon fends them off and counters with a right over the top. Williams backs up with gloves down and his head way up, allowing Colon to pop him with a short right cross. They trade stiff jabs before the Puerto Rican digs two hooks to the body. Colon tags his foe with a straight right but Williams counters him with one of his own. Williams walks after Colon, who is backing up now. Good action so far. 10-9 Colon.

Round 3

Williams paws with his jab before letting loose with an overhand right. Colon avoids it, but he can’t counter it. They tie each other up and grapple briefly before being broken up. Colon reset and sticks a left jab in Williams’ face but “Tyger” comes back with a combo. They trade some decent leather in the center of the ring and Colon is nailed by a lead left hook. He takes it well and returns to his jab. A lead left uppercut by Colon but Williams ignores it and reels off a double jab. Hard right to the body followed by a left hook up top by the Puerto Rican at the bell. Close round. 10-9 Williams.

Round 4

Colon rushes out of his corner and delivers a right-left but Williams answers with a right of his own. “Tyger” comes forward behind his jab but Colon busts out a three-punch flurry. Williams nails his foe with a laser of a right hand and it shakes up the Puerto Rican. They clinch and now Colon is backing off. Williams misses with a pair of powerful left hook, allowing Colon to tie him up. Colon bounces off the ropes and cracks Terrel with a sizzling left-right and then follows it up with a right cross late. 10-9 Colon.

Round 5

Williams rushes out his corner but when he meets his opponent, he’s coming in too quickly and smothers his overhand right. Colon counters with a right to the head. Colon slips to his knees and when he’s up, he’s drilled by a straight right. Colon is rocked and he backs off. Colon retreats while Williams is chasing him down. They come together and Colon delivers a wicked shot to the groin and Terrel is down, writhing in agony. Williams rolls around like he’s putting out a fire and then suddenly, he springs to his feet. Williams is angry and yelling at the Puerto Rican while referee Cooper scolds Colon for it and deducts two points because he believes it was intentional. Williams lands a stiff jab. Colon backs off as Williams is looking to knock his block off. Good action late but Williams is landing the much harder shots. Colon is a little passive near the bell. 10-7 Williams.

Round 6

Colon comes out with a nice combo to the head. They tie up and get nasty on the inside. Cooper yanks them together and scorns them both, warning a disqualification to both if it continues. They fight on and Williams is angered, looking to take him out. Colon backs away, trying to establish his jab. Sweeping overhand left by Williams just clips the Puerto Rican. Stiff left jab by Terrel but his follow-up right misses. Colon is moving more, darting in and out and side-to-side. They trade blows briefly but a short left hook by Williams causes Colon to stumble, but he seems more off-balance than anything. Colon is on his bike again as Williams chases him down. 10-9 Williams.

Round 7

Williams continues where he left off and chases after Colon. “Tyger” cracks him with a nice left hook, forcing Colon on his heels. Nice left to the gut by Terrel but he just misses a follow-up right cross. Williams is looking to bang his foe, but the Puerto Rican wants none of it. They clinch but Williams nails his rival with a short left hook. It shakes Colon again and now he’s completely on his bike. Another nice left hook by Williams. Another. Colon ties him up again and is in survival mode. Colon is running around the ring to avoid the shots until a loopy overhand right rocks Colon. The Puerto Rican grabs his head and crumbles, claiming he was hit in the back of the head. Cooper rules it an infraction and gives Colon some time to recover. Replays show that Williams did, in fact, hit him on the back of the head while Colon ducked down and turned his back. After a few moments, Cooper deducts a point from Williams. Finally, battle continues and Williams runs right at him. They go toe-to-toe until Colon rakes him with a hard uppercut. Good action at the bell. 9-9.

Round 8

Colon misses a three-punch combo at the start. Williams misses a left hook. They clinch and grapple on the inside, digging hooks to each other’s body. Colon backs off and moves away while “Tyger” walks him down behind the jab. Nice left jab by Colon, but Williams counters with a sharp right up top. Colon ties him up on the inside. He does it again. They maul in the clinch, leading to Williams shoving his right forearm into his foe’s face. They trade some decent shots on the inside at the bell. Close round. 10-9 Williams.

Round 9

Hard two-three by Colon to start the frame. Again. Williams comes back with a right to the face. Colon is moving well and popping off the jab, but he’s also much more active to the head and body. Williams misses a left hook and then he whiffs with a right. Colon ties him up, leading to a scrum in the clinch. “Tyger” lands a lead right and then a few follow-up jabs. The Puerto Rican misses an overhand right and he’s nailed by a short right cross in return. A huge left hook rocks Colon. His knees buckle and he’s ready to go. Williams tees off on him while Colon tries to tie up. A flurry and Colon is down. He takes his time getting up. They continue and Colon walks into a monster left uppercut and then a right. He falls face first, but he quickly rolls over and stays on a knee. He rises at eight but he’s saved by the bell. 10-7 Williams.

Colon’s corner is removing his gloves between rounds. Apparently his corner thinks the fight is over, not knowing there is one round left. There is a lot of confusion and Williams’ corner is livid that Cooper is allowing Colon’s corner to re-tape his gloves. Joe Goossen protests the decision and then Cooper walks over to Colon’s corner and stops the bout. Good call by the ref, as Colon's corner attempted to give him time to recover.

Terrel Williams def. Prichard Colon via Disqualification (Colon’s corner removed his gloves and tried putting them back on) at the end of the ninth round

Update: Colon suffered from dizzy spells and vomiting in his dressing before fainting. He was rushed to nearby Inova Fairfax Hospital where emergency surgery was performed to stop bleeding on the brain. He remains in a coma.

Lamont Peterson vs. Felix Diaz Jr.

Round 1

Diaz is the first to throw as he tosses out a few jabs to the body. Peterson stays away and throws a few jabs of his own. A couple of shots are fired from each early on but Peterson is controlling the pace with his jab. Lamont goes with the left hook but he’s countered by a straight left by the former Olympian. They come together where Diaz lands a left hook. Peterson answers with a left to the head and body. Lamont cracks him with an overhand right, but Diaz comes right back with a right and left hook that shakes Peterson. One-two by Peterson followed by a sharp flurry of shots. Good action. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 2

Diaz comes out with a nice flurry to the head and body. Peterson stays with his jab before blasting the shorter Dominican fighter with a lead right and then a left hook to the body. Another hard straight right by Lamont, but Diaz comes right back with a barrage. Sizzling left uppercut-right hook by Diaz on the inside snaps Lamont’s head back. Diaz tosses out a jab and then spins out to his right. Peterson digs two to the body and then lands a right to the face. Peterson presses his foe into the ropes and slams a left hook to the body, followed by a left uppercut to the chin. It’s good two-action with 45 seconds left. Diaz fires off a sizzling combo in return, but Lamont answers with another left to the guts. Peterson crashes home a few more shots with Diaz in the corner at the bell. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 3

Peterson jabs to the head and body but Diaz storms back with a sharp combo to the head and body. Peterson backs off but he tosses out a few jabs while he does. Peterson changes course and forces the Dominican into a corner and slams several thudding shots to the body and head. They stand forehead-to-forehead and dig some serious shots to the body. The pace is brisk with 45 seconds left as Peterson is charging after his foe. Diaz is backing up, looking to set traps. Hard right upstairs by Lamont late. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 4

Diaz attacks the body and then the head right away. Peterson stays in front of him and sticks his jab down Diaz’ throat. Another jab by Peterson followed by a sharp right uppercut. Right cross by Lamont, but the former Olympian answers with a straight left and then right hook. They slam hooks to the body at the midway point until Diaz nails his taller foe with an overhand left and then a right hook. Nice right upstairs by the American, but Diaz counters with a lead left. Diaz ducks under a flurry and counters his opponent with a sharp right hook at the bell. 10-9 Diaz.

Round 5

A couple of jabs by the D.C.-area native backs Diaz into the ropes. They briefly exchange blows before a right to the body sends Peterson into the ropes. He escapes out to his right and Diaz then does a shuffle along the ropes to taunt him. Counter left to the jaw by Diaz midway through. Peterson stops throwing briefly, allowing Diaz to rake a serious of punches to the body before nailing him with a right hook up top. Left uppercut-right hook by Diaz at the bell. 10-9 Diaz.

Round 6

Peterson laces a few jabs to begin the frame, but Diaz storms back with a blistering assault to the body, capped off by a right hook. Diaz is moving in and out and circling to his right, which is beginning to frustrate the American. Peterson attacks the body with a flurry, but Diaz blocks them all. They exchange wild hooks in the center of the ring with a minute left. Peterson backs away and returns to the jab but Diaz cracks him with a beautiful counter left hook. Lamont takes it well but he’s nailed by another laser-like left to the jaw. Good action just before the bell. 10-9 Diaz.

Round 7

Felix storms out of his corner and slams a few hard hooks to the body. Peterson pounds on his foe’s ribcage in return. They stand toe-to-toe briefly until a right hook rocks Peterson. Lamont backs off and resets, but Diaz is all over him, forcing another exchange. A blazing five-punch combo to the head from the Olympian backs Peterson up again. Diaz slaps him with a jab. A lead left by Diaz is countered by an overhand right with 35 seconds left. Double left hook by the Dominican late but they only glance off their targets. 10-9 Diaz.

Round 8

Peterson comes right after his shorter foe and traps him in a corner. They trade shots until Diaz escapes out to his left. Peterson ties him up and forces a slugfest on the inside. Diaz rakes his foe with a series of left uppercuts to the body but Peterson is right there, doing the same. Felix backs off as he’s popped with a few jabs and now he’s on his bike momentarily. Peterson chases after him and ties him up when he catches him. Lamont digs a series of lefts and right to the body. Diaz moves out of the way but he has to absorb a few more body shots. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 9

Peterson walks right at Diaz and digs several thudding shots to the body. They trade blows shot-for-shot. They split briefly but Peterson is on him with a big left hook. They exchange again before Peterson cracks him with a left uppercut. A leaping right hook from the Olympian is hard and clean, but Peterson shrugs it off. They exchange briefly again. Diaz is now charging after Peterson and ducking under a lot of his shots. Felix tears into Lamont’s body and then nails him with a right hook up top. Peterson answers with a big left hook and then a fierce flurry to the body. They stand toe-to-toe in the corner and bust each other up with reckless abandon. Very good action late. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 10

Jab-left hook by the American as soon as the frame starts. Diaz backs up into the ropes, looking to set another trap. Peterson tosses out a few jabs, forcing the Dominican to tie up. Jab-jab-left cross by Diaz just before he escapes a corner to his right. Straight right by Lamont, but Diaz is there to pepper him with a left to the head and body. Hard left hook by Diaz, followed by a right to the body by Peterson. Hard right to the stomach by the former champion and Diaz continues to back up. Diaz isn’t as active as he normally has been late in the round. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 11

Peterson returns to his jab early, keeping the smaller former Olympian at bay. Diaz backs off and absorbs a few shots to the body. Peterson goes with the jab several more times but the Dominican rifles a flurry to the body. They tie up at the midway point as Diaz is trying to seize control. Peterson backs himself into the ropes and leans way back as Diaz misses his shots. Peterson paws with the jab but Diaz is looking to get inside and slug away. Sweeping left hook by Lamont late, probably getting him the round. Diaz is stalking his prey relentless but he can’t get his hands going at all. Very close round. 10-9 Peterson.

Round 12

Diaz might need a knockout to win this one, or at least a knockdown. Diaz ducks under a left hook and lands pair of meager left uppercuts on the inside. The 2008 gold medalist is very aggressive – desperate, most likely – and he’s trying to slug it out. Peterson uses his jab and backs up into the ropes. Diaz is all over him and slams several hooks to the body and head. A nice combo to the head by Diaz, capped by a right hook. Lamont counters him with a sharp right uppercut on the inside. Peterson backs off, maybe playing it safe as Diaz chases after him. Hard left hook on the button from the Dominican. 10-9 Diaz (115-113 Peterson).
