Adriano Moraes has a second win over a mixed martial arts immortal in his sights.
The American Top Team export will defend his undisputed One Championship flyweight crown when his rematch with Demetrious Johnson shoulders the marquee for One on Prime Video 1 this Saturday at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Moraes enters the cage on the strength of a three-fight winning streak. He last appeared at One “One X” on March 26, when he submitted Yuya Wakamatsu with a third-round guillotine choke. Johnson, meanwhile, has not fought since he was felled by a knee strike from Moraes in the second round of their One on TNT 1 pairing in April 2021. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder has never lost to the same opponent twice.
As Moraes and Johnson make final preparations for their second
encounter, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them
to this point:
33: Years of age for Moraes, who was born on April 21, 1989 in Brasilia, Brazil.
10: Moraes victories by submission, accounting for 50% of his career total (20). His methods of choice: four rear-naked chokes, three guillotine chokes, two arm-triangle chokes and one brabo choke. Moraes holds four other victories by knockout or technical knockout (20%) and six more by decision (30%).
90: Seconds needed for Moraes to dispatch Aldo Ariel Villalba with an arm-triangle choke at a Pro Mix Fight show on March 9, 2013. More than nine years later, it remains his fastest finish to date.
48: Rounds completed by Moraes as a professional mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on nine different occasions and carries a 6-3 record in those bouts.
.779: Cumulative winning percentage between the three men—Geje Eustaquio, Kairat Akhmetov and Yusup Saadulaev—who have defeated Moraes. They sport a combined record of 60-16-1.
36: Years of age for Johnson, who was born on Aug. 13, 1986 in Madisonville, Kentucky.
5: Johnson wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 17% of his career total (30). His list of victims: Henry Cejudo, Joseph Benavidez, Jesse Brock, Marshall Carlyle and Brandon Fieds. Johnson owns 12 other wins by submission (40%) and 13 more by decision (43%).
1: Stalemate on the Johnson resume. The AMC Pankration cornerstone fought to a contentious majority draw with Ian McCall at UFC on FX 2 in March 2012. Johnson outpointed McCall in their rematch three months later.
1,678: Significant strikes landed by Johnson as a UFC flyweight, placing him first on the promotion’s all-time list at 125 pounds. Only Tim Elliott (1,562) sits within shouting distance of the mark, which was established in 2018.
85: Combined victories between the four men—Moraes, Cejudo, Dominick Cruz and Brad Pickett—who have beaten Johnson. They boast a cumulative .794 winning percentage (85-22).
