By The Numbers: UFC 289 Pre-Fight Edition

Amanda Nunes will defend her undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight title against Irene Aldana in the UFC 289 headliner on Saturday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. Meanwhile, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira looks to rebound from his Oct. 22 submission defeat to Islam Makhachev when he collides with Beneil Dariush in the three-round co-main event at 155 pounds.

As UFC 289 “Nunes vs. Aldana” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the card bring to the table:

15: Consecutive calendar years in which Nunes has fought at least once. She went 2-1 in 2008, 2-0 in 2009, 1-0 in 2010, 1-1 in 2011, 1-0 in 2012, 2-1 in 2013, 0-1 in 2014, 2-0 in 2015, 3-0 in 2016, 1-0 in 2017, 2-0 in 2018, 2-0 in 2019, 1-0 in 2020, 1-1 in 2021 and 1-0 in 2022.

903: Total strikes landed by Aldana as a UFC women’s bantamweight, tying her with Nunes for fifth on the promotion’s all-time list at 135 pounds. Only Raquel Pennington (1,310), Alexis Davis (1,000), Julianna Pena (964) and Yana Santos (938) have been credited with more.

357: Days spent by Oliveira as undisputed UFC lightweight champion. He captured the crown with a second-round technical knockout of Michael Chandler at UFC 262 on May 15, 2021, made one successful title defense and then lost it on the scale—his missed weight by half a pound—ahead of his first-round rear-naked choke submission of Justin Gaethje at UFC 274.

8: Dariush wins by submission, accounting for 36% of his career total (22). His methods of choice: five rear-naked chokes, two armbars and one arm-triangle choke. Dariush holds five other wins by knockout or technical knockout (23%) and nine more by decision (41%).

10: Barriault victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 67% of his career total. His list of UFC victims: Julian Marquez and Abu Azaitar. Barriault owns one other victory by submission (6%)—he subdued Jordan Wright with a guillotine choke at UFC Fight Night 205—and four more by decision (27%).

25: Years of age for Miranda Maverick. The youngest fighter on the card, she was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, on July 1, 1997. Maverick draws Jasmine Jasudavicius in a three-round women’s flyweight prelim.

.762: Cumulative winning percentage between the 22 fighters booked to compete at the event. They sport a combined record of 343-106-4. Oliveira has the most victories (33) of anyone on the card, while Chris Curtis has been saddled with the most losses (10). Curtis toes the line against Nassourdine Imavov in the featured middleweight prelim.
