Renato Carneiro and Chan Sung Jung are two aggressive strikers looking to carve their path to redemption after losing their last outings. They will now try to start a winning run at UFC Fight Night 154 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 22. Let these numbers show just how explosive this matchup can get.

Post-fight bonuses

Jung is one of the featherweight’s divisions more popular fighters, and the number of post-fight bonuses he has earned show why. “The Korean Zombie” earned his first Fight of the Night at World Extreme Cagefighting in a highly controversial split decision loss to Leonard Garcia. In the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he garnered post-fight accolades in all but one of his bouts. He has two Fight of the Night (versus Dustin Poirier and Yair Rodriguez), two Submission of the Night (versus Poirier and Garcia), one Knockout of the Night (versus Mark Hominick) and one Performance of the Night (versus Dennis Bermudez) awards.

Carneiro is slowly becoming a fan favorite himself, with two post-fight bonuses in seven UFC bouts. He has one Fight of the Night (versus Brian Ortega) and one Performance of the Night (versus Cub Swanson) awards.

Wins by submission

Eight of Jung’s 14 career victories have come by submission and the most popular one by far is the twister he applied on Garcia. That stoppage was notably picked as Submission of the Year by various media outfits. His other victims include Hyung Geol Lee, In Seok Yoo, Jung Beom Choi, Dae Han Choi, Shintaro Ishiwatari, Matt Jaggers and Poirier.

Carneiro, a jiu-jitsu black belt, has stopped six opponents by submission, namely Alexandre Almeida, Eduardo Felipe , Mauro Chaulet, Ismael Bonfim, Tom Niinimaki and Swanson. All were by rear-naked choke.

Wins by knockout

While Carneiro possesses excellent standup, he has yet to finish an opponent by knockout. He, however, is a high-volume striker much like Jung, and has been successful in that regard. Carneiro’s highest output in a single fight is 116, which was against Calvin Kattar. He also threw 109 significant strikes on Brian Ortega, albeit in a losing effort. It was a fight he was winning until “T-City” submitted him with a guillotine choke in the third round.

Meanwhile, Jung owns four victories by KO or TKO. His victims include Hyung Geol Lee, Fanjin Son, Hominick and Bermudez. As for his highest output in a single fight, Jung tallied 126 on Rodriguez, also to a losing cause.

Career losses

After 19 professional bouts, Jung has suffered five defeats. Jung compiled nine straight victories before bowing to Masanori Kanehara by decision. He was also decisioned by Garcia and knocked out by George Roop, Jose Aldo and Rodriguez. Carneiro, on the other hand, piled up 11 victories before meeting his first setback at the hands of Ortega. Apart from that guillotine choke loss, he was also stopped by Aldo via TKO earlier this year. Advertisement
