By the Numbers: UFC 240

The ordering process for Ultimate Fighting Championship pay-per-views has changed: UFC 240 is only available on ESPN+ in the U.S.

While he may have had a hiccup in his venture to 155 pounds, Max Holloway remains the unquestioned king of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s featherweight division.

Holloway retained his 145-pound belt with relative ease at UFC 240, taking a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar in the Saturday’s headliner at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. While Edgar was game as he usually is, he was unable to really make his Hawaiian foe uncomfortable during the championship clash.

Meanwhile, Cristiane Justino got back on track after her stunning knockout loss to Amanda Nunes in December, as she scored a dominant decision victory over Felicia Spencer in the co-main event. Spencer should be commended for her toughness, but “Cyborg” has set herself up for a rematch with Nunes, the two-division champion.

16: Featherweight victories for Holloway after his triumph over Edgar. That’s the second-most of any fighter in UFC/WEC history behind only Jose Aldo (18).

5: Consecutive losses in title fights for Edgar. That includes his interim title bout against Aldo at UFC 200. Additionally, “The Answer” has lost championship matches with Aldo (UFC 156), Benson Henderson (UFC 150) and Henderson again (UFC 144) dating back to February 2012.

129: Significant strikes landed by Holloway. By comparison, Edgar landed 96. “Blessed” outlanded his foe 27 to 13 in round two, 30 to 17 in round three, 29 to 22 in round four and 30 to 26 in round five. Edgar, meanwhile, held an 18-to-13 advantage in significant strikes in the opening frame.

109: Significant head strikes landed by Holloway. Edgar landed just 57 in comparison.

18: Significant leg strikes landed by Edgar. Holloway failed to land a significant strike to the leg in the bout.

1: Takedown landed in 15 attempts for Edgar. “The Answer” was able to land his only takedown of the fight late in the third round.

122: Significant strikes landed by Justino, the most she has landed in any bout while competing in the UFC, Strikeforce and EliteXC. By comparison, Spencer landed just 38 significant strikes. “Cyborg” outlanded her foe 45 to 10 in round one, 24 to 10 in round two and 53 to 18 in round three.

43: Significant body strikes landed by Justino. Spencer, meanwhile, landed just nine.

20: Significant leg strikes for Justino; Spencer landed eight.

34: Significant clinch strikes for “Cyborg.” By comparison, Spencer landed just three significant strikes in the clinch.

0: Takedowns landed in eight attempts for Spencer.

4: Justino opponents who have managed to go the distance against her in defeat. In addition to Spencer, Holly Holm, Yoko Takahashi and Vanessa Porto have made it to the final bell against “Cyborg.”

27: Significant ground strikes landed by Geoff Neal — including 23 in the decisive second stanza — in a second-round TKO triumph against Niko Price in a featured welterweight clash. The Fortis MMA standout ended the bout with accurate and powerful ground-and-pound at the 2:39 mark of the period. Neal landed 41 significant strikes overall in the bout. Price landed 24 significant strikes, with just four of those coming on the ground.

110: Total strikes landed by 22-year-old Russian prospect Arman Tsarukyan in a unanimous decision triumph over Olivier Aubin-Mercier. By comparison, Aubin-Mercier landed 36. Tsarukyan outlanded his foe by a whopping 70-to-20 count in total strikes in the final stanza of the lightweight contest. Tsarukyan also held a 47-to-23 edge in significant strikes landed.

80: Significant strikes landed by Hakeem Dawodu in a third-round technical knockout victory over Yoshinori Horie at featherweight. Dawodu landed 42 significant strikes to the head, 27 to the body and 11 to the leg. By comparison, Horie landed 39 significant strikes.

.590: Significant striking accuracy for Deiveson Figueiredo, who landed 67 of 113 significant strikes — including one knockdown — in an entertaining decision win over Alexandre Pantoja in a battle of ranked flyweights. By comparison, Pantoja landed 61 of 151 attempts, a 40 percent success rate.

2: Takedowns landed in 10 attempts for Pantoja, who struggled to get Figueiredo to the canvas throughout the bout. Figueiredo was more efficient, landing two of his three takedown tries.

4: Wins and finishes for Gillian Robertson following her second-round technical knockout win over Sarah Frota in a preliminary flyweight scrap. Both totals rank first No. 1 in the history of the women’s 125-pound division.

8: Takedowns successfully defended in eight attempts by former featherweight and lightweight competitor Erik Koch in his 170-pound debut, a decision triumph against Kyle Steward. Koch also landed four takedown attempts himself, the most of his UFC and WEC tenure.
