By the Numbers: UFC 274

Charles Oliveira is no longer lightweight champion, but that didn’t stop him from mowing down Justin Gaethje on Saturday night.

“Do Bronx” showed no ill effects from a controversial mishap on the scales, as he absorbed several heavy shots from Gaethje before rallying for a rear-naked choke victory 3:22 into Round 1 of their UFC 274 headlining bout at the Footprint Center in Phoenix on Saturday night. The victory allows Oliveira to remain the division’s No. 1 contender, while Gaethje falls to 0-2 in Ultimate Fighting Championship title bouts.

21: Career UFC triumphs for Oliveira, which ranks fifth in promotion history behind Andrei Arlovski (23), Jim Miller (23), Donald Cerrone (22) and Demian Maia (22).

11: Consecutive victories for Oliveira. Since he missed weight by 0.5 pounds, the Brazilian’s latest effort doesn’t technically count toward his streak at 155 pounds.

67: Combined significant strikes landed by Carla Esparza (30) and Rose Namajunas (37) in their strawweight title fight in the evening’s co-main event. That’s the eighth-lowest combined total for a championship bout in UFC history. Esparza edged Namajunas by split decision to recapture the strawweight crown she initially won in December 2014.

380: Championship bouts in UFC history where a fighter has attempted at least 50 significant strikes. Esparza landed 30 of 133 attempts for a 22.6 percent accuracy to rank 363rd out of that group, while Namajunas landed 37 of 136 attempts for 27.2 percent to rank 343rd.

2: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts by Esparza, who successfully landed both of her takedowns in Round 4.

0:22: Total control time enjoyed by Esparza, who was unable to keep Namajunas on the ground for any signficant period after her two successful takedowns.

10: Career strawweight victories for Esparza, tying her with former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the most in the history of the division.

2,703: Days since Esparza defeated Namajunas via third-round submission at “The Ultimate Fighter 20” finale to become the promotion’s inaugural 115-pound champion. She would relinquish the belt to Jedrzejczyk one bout later at UFC 185.

9: Front kick knockouts in UFC history. Michael Chandler authored perhaps the most memorable entry of this group when he rendered Tony Ferguson unconscious with the maneuver 17 seconds into Round 2 of their featured lightweight tilt.

14: Career victories at light heavyweight for Ovince St. Preux, who improved to 2-0 against Mauricio Rua with a split-decision triumph over “Shogun.” That total ranks fifth in the history of the division behind Jon Jones (20), Chuck Liddell (16), Glover Teixeira (16) and Ryan Bader (15).

36: Significant body strikes, out of 63 total, landing by St. Preux, who reddened his opponents midsection with a steady diet of kicks to that area. By comparison, Rua landed 11 significant body strikes.

43: Age of Francisco Trinaldo, making him the second oldest fighter on the UFC roster. The Brazilian, who turns 44 in August, proved age is just a number as he improved to 2-1 in the promotion’s welterweight division with a unanimous decision triumph over Danny Roberts in the evening’s featured preliminary bout.

131: Total strikes landed by Macy Chiasson in a split-decision win over Norma Dumont at featherweight. Chiasson also landed six of 12 takedowns and enjoyed 7:34 of control time in victory.

3: Submission wins in UFC competition for Brandon Royval, tying him with six others for the second most in the history of the division. Ex-flyweight king and current One Championship athlete Demetrious Johnson still holds the record with five submission triumphs.

6: Consecutive UFC bouts to go the distance for Blagoy Ivanov, who defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima to earn a unanimous verdict in a preliminary heavyweight contest on Saturday night. Ivanov’s last finish came in a first-round TKO of Shawn Jordan at World Series of Fighting 35 on March 18, 2017.

3: UFC appearances in 2022 for Andre Fialho, the first fighter in the promotion to reach that number this year. The Portugal native earned his second consecutive knockout victory, wiping out Cameron VanCamp 2:35 into the opening frame of their welterweight bout.

12: First-round finishes in the professional career of Fialho, who has earned quick finishes in organizations such as the UFC, Bellator and UAE Warriors, among others.

11: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 15 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the flyweight bout between Kleydson Rodrigues and C.J. Vergara in favor of Rodrigues. Three others, meanwhile, saw it as a 28-28 draw. The cageside judges saw things differently, as Eric Colon and Eric Curcio submitted 29-28 tallies in favor of Vergara, giving the Fury FC veteran a split-decision triumph.

81: Significant strikes landed by Rodrigues. Vergara, meanwhile, landed 71. Rodrigues outlanded his opponent 48 to 27 in Round 1 and 20 to 18 in Round 3 while also securing the fight’s only two takedowns. Vergara held a 26-to-13 edge in significant strikes in the second stanza.

8: Takedowns landed in eight attempts for Lupita Godinez in a unanimous decision win over Ariane Carnelossi at strawweight. That ties her with Rose Namajunas for the third-most takedowns landed at 115 pounds in UFC history. Only Jessica Andrade, with 10 against Tecia Torres at UFC on Fox 28 and Tatiana Suarez, with nine against Carla Esparza at UFC 228, have landed more in a women’s strawweight bout.

130: Total strikes landed by Godinez. By comparison, Carnelossi landed just 23. Godinez also held a 46-to-9 advantage in significant strikes.
