Calvin Kattar is gradually climbing the ladder in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s featherweight division.

“The Boston Finisher” won for the fourth time in five appearances, gradually pulling away from Dan Ige for a unanimous decision triumph in the UFC on ESPN 13 headliner at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night. Despite his recent surge, Kattar may have more work to do in a crowded division.

Here is a by the numbers look at UFC on ESPN 13, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

2: Events in UFC history to feature 0 knockdowns on the entire card. Wednesday’s 11-bout lineup joined UFC Fight Night 9 “Stevenson vs. Guillard” as the only events to earn that distinction.

105: Significant strikes landed by Kattar, a career best in eight UFC appearances for “The Boston Finisher.” By comparison, Ige landed 84 significant strikes. Kattar outlanded his opponent 20 to 13 in Round 1, 21 to 20 in Round 3, 21 to 16 in Round 4 and 28 to 17 in Round 5. Ige held an 18-to-15 edge in Round 2.

70: Significant head strikes for Kattar. Ige landed 37 significant strikes to the head.

30: Significant body strikes for Ige. Kattar, meanwhile, landed 19.

0: Takedowns landed in nine attempts for Ige. Kattar was successful on his only takedown attept of the fight.

67: Significant strikes landed by Tim Elliott in a decision triumph over Ryan Benoit in the flyweight co-main event. By comparison, Benoit landed 55. Elliott outlanded his foe 22 to 16 in Round 1, 23 to 20 in Round 2 and 22 to 19 in Round 3.

12: Takedowns successfully defended by Benoit. Elliott landed one of six takedowns in the opening round and failed on all seven attempts over the course of the bout’s final 10 minutes.

1,824: Days since Jimmie Rivera’s last finish, a first-round knockout of Marcus Brimage in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 72 on July 18, 2015. Seventeen of Rivera’s 23 professional triumphs have gone the distance, including a three-round verdict over Cody Stamann on Wednesday.

.530: Significant striking accuracy for Rivera, who landed 48 of his 89 attempts in the featherweight bout. Stamann, meanwhile, landed 26 of 72 significant strike attempts — a 36 percent clip.

5: Takedowns landed in seven attempts by Talia Santos in a unanimous decision triumph over Molly McCann in a women’s flyweight encounter. Santos landed at least one takedown in each frame, passed guard five times and attempted one submission in earning her first UFC triumph.

98: Significant strikes landed by Mounir Lazzez in an upset victory against Abdul Razak Alhassan at welterweight. The Tunisian fighter landed 45 strikes to the head, 21 to the body and 20 to the legs. Alhassan lacked that level of distribution, as he landed 42 of his 57 significant strikes to the head of his opponent.

0-2: Record for Alhassan in bouts that have gone the distance. “Judo Thunder” also dropped a split decision to Omari Akhmedov at UFC Fight Night 109 in May 2017. All 10 of Alhassan’s career triumphs have come via KO/TKO inside of a round.

118: Total strikes landed by Octagon newcomer Khamzat Chimaev in a dominant opening stanza against John Phillips at middleweight. Chimaev outlanded his foe 118 to 2 in total strikes and 40 to 1 in signfiicant strikes in Round 1 before earning a submission win 1:12 into the second frame.

17: Significant ground strikes landed by Lerone Murphy in a TKO win against Ricardo Ramos at the 4:18 mark of Round 1. A series of heavy right hands on the canvas brought a halt to the featherweight bout. Murphy landed 22 significant strikes overall.

241: Total strikes landed by Jared Gordon in a lopsided unanimous decision triumph over Chris Fishgold at featherweight. “Flash” landed takedowns in each round and earned a trio of 30-26 scorecards from the judges. Fishgold landed just 27 total strikes in defeat.

7: Rear-naked choke victories among 13 professional triumphs for Jack Shore. The 25-year-old Welshman used the manuever to tap out Aaron Phillips in a preliminary bantamweight bout on Wednesday. Advertisement
