TOTAL NUMBER OF KSW FIGHTS: 544
TOTAL NUMBER OF KSW EVENTS: 64

KSW commenced its 2021 campaign with a fight card that alternated between long decisions and intense finishes. A rarity occurred in the main event, with a single strike that needed to be seen to be believed. KSW 58 featured the fall of a few mighty undefeated fighters, a major upset and bad blood that spilled over into a post-fight brawl.

Clothesline of Doom: With a swing of his right arm, Daniel Torres claimed the featherweight throne from Salahdine Parnasse using the inner crook of his elbow between his forearm and bicep. It is the first time a strike like this has finished a fight in company history.

Instant Rematch Incoming: Coming into the main event, Parnasse had never been defeated across 15 career bouts. It is his first bout, win or lose, to end by KO. The Frenchman does sport a pair of technical knockout victories earlier in his career.

The Rare ‘Under’ Hits: The headliner the ninth bout for a featherweight title in KSW history, it is the first to conclude in the opening round. A majority had gone three rounds or longer – the promotion did not always implement five-round title fights, adding those in 2018.

‘Twas Speed Killed the Beast: At 109 seconds, Torres’ finish is the quickest among all KSW men’s championship bouts that have ever occurred below welterweight.

An Upset as Big as His Bicep: Then-champ Parnasse closed as a -810 favorite, but the +470 underdog Torres wiped him out in the first round. In comparison to 2020 numbers, +550 Timothy Johnson smashed Tyrell Fortune (-800) for the biggest Bellator MMA upset, while the Ultimate Fighting Championship saw one far more substantial as Shana Dobson at +900 notched the biggest betting upset in UFC history by stopping -1375 Mariya Agapova.

Grizzly Old Lions: In the co-main event, Szymon Kolecki won a decision over veteran KSW fighter Martin Zawada. On the roster since KSW 6 in 2006, Zawada competed for KSW 11 years before Kolecki, a 2000 Olympic silver and 2008 Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting, made his MMA debut.

But…: Shamil Musaev lifted his spotless record to 14-0 by taking a decision against Uros Jurisic. In the process, he lowered his career finish rate to 71 percent, while breaking a streak of eight consecutive stoppage triumphs.

Sometimes These Things Do Happen In MMA: After the bout concluded, Musaev attacked his opponent, slamming Jurisic to the canvas and landing some punches from on top before others could intervene. In an event reminiscent of Strikeforce Nashville, multiple skirmishes broke out before cooler heads prevailed. KSW brass stated at the end of the card that Musaev will not be disqualified nor will his win be overturned, but he and others involved in the fracas will be issued fines.

Not Actually Longer: With an arm-triangle choke, Michal Andryszak tapped out former Glory kickboxing title challenger Guto Inocente in the second round. Win, lose or no-contest, all 32 of “Longer” Andryszak’s career bouts have ended inside the distance.

Big Man Doing Big Man Things: For the first time in KSW history, a heavyweight ended a fight with an arm-triangle choke, when Andryszak submitted Inocente. One such finish did come at super heavyweight at KSW 16 in 2011, when 280-pound James Thompson arm-triangled 271-pound Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Ready For 25 Minutes with Antun Racic: With his decision win over David Martinik, Pawel Politylo has gone to the scorecards in all but one of his career bouts. His lone stoppage came against Dawid Gralka at KSW 47 in 2019.

135 in the WEC Was Almost 20 Points Higher: As Politylo took the full three rounds to beat Martinik at bantamweight, he lowered the company’s bantamweight stoppage rate to just over 30 percent in the division’s short history.

Buzzsawed: A perfect 5-0 after hitting a quick armbar on Daniel Bazant, Robert Ruchala has earned three consecutive submission victories after starting out his career with two by decision.

Kope with the Losses: The card opener saw Bartlomiej Kopera drop a decision to Francisco Albano Barrio to lose his fourth consecutive KSW match. He is now the second fighter in promotional history to lose at least four bouts without ever winning one, joining Vaso Bakocevic.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into KSW 58, Kolecki had never won on the scorecards (nine fights), Jurisic had never been defeated (11 fights) and Bazant had never been finished (five fights).

Don’t Forget Vince DiCola: Kolecki and Zawada opted to compete against one another not just in the cage, but also with their walkout music. Both selected tracks famous from “Rocky” film soundtracks, with Zawada using “No Easy Way Out” by Robert Tepper, and Kolecki countering with “Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti. “Rocky” edged “Rocky IV” by decision.
