The lineups are set for the final two Professional Fighters League playoff events.
The first card takes place on Aug. 18 at the Theater at Madison
Square Garden in New York City and features heavyweights and
women’s featherweights. The heavyweight semifinals have undergone
one significant change, as Maurice
Greene will replace the inured Marcelo
Nunes and lock horns with Renan
Ferreira on side of the bracket. That matchup will serve as the
featured bout of the evening, while the other semifinal will pit
Denis
Goltsov against Jordan
Heiderman. The main card will also feature a pair of women’s
145-pound semifinals: Larissa
Pacheco vs. Olena
Kolesnyk and Marina
Mokhnatkina vs. Amber
Leibrock.
The PFL 8 main card will air on ESPN and includes a showcase bout between Nathan Kelly and Damion Nelson. A six-fight preliminary card of showcase fights will precede the main draw on ESPN+.
Meanwhile, PFL 9 will go down on Aug. 23 at the same venue, with the postseason for lightweights and welterweights taking center stage. The featured pairing will be a 155-pound clash pitting Clay Collard against Shane Burgos, while Olivier Aubin-Mercier meets Bruno Miranda in the other lightweight semifinal. In the welterweight semis, Sadibou Sy will lock horns with Carlos Leal, while Magomed Magomedkerimov squares off against Magomed Umalatov. Finally, Biaggio Ali W
alsh will face an as yet to be determined opponent in a showcase bout on the main draw. The PFL 9 main card airs on ESPN, while a five-bout preliminary opener airs on ESPN+.
“We are thrilled to bring two 2023 PFL Playoff events back to New York City at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on August 18 and 23,” said PFL president of fighter operations Ray Sefo. “Our athletes have worked all season long for this kind of opportunity, and sixteen fighters have the chance to punch their ticket to the 2023 PFL World Championship with a $1 million purse awaiting.”
